OWP New Club Criteria
This procedure will outline the process of how a club can become a member of Ontario Water Polo. There is no policy giving a demographic or geographic license within the province and indeed the goal of OWP is to promote the sport across the Province of Ontario. OWP would like to ensure that the nature of the new club is financially sound and demonstrates support for existing policies and organizational direction.
1. Application and Admission for Membership as a club.
No club will be admitted as a Member of OWP unless:
a) The candidate member has made a written application for membership to Ontario Water Polo.
b) The candidate member has agreed to comply with these bylaws, policies, procedures, rules and regulations of Ontario water Polo and Water Polo Canada.
c) If, at the time of applying for membership the candidate member is currently a member, the candidate member is a member in good standing as defined within the by-laws / constitution of OWP, unless approved otherwise by the Board.
d) If the candidate member was at any time previously a member, the candidate member was a member in good standing at the time of ceasing to be a member, unless approved otherwise by the OWP Board of Directors.
e) The candidate member has been approved by majority vote as a member by the Board of Directors.
f) The candidate member has paid dues as prescribed by the Board of Directors as per Schedule A.
g) The candidate member must show that they are working toward being incorporated in the first year. They must have completed the incorporation process prior to year 4 whereby the full membership fee is charged by OWP.
In addition to their membership application, new clubs must comply with the following minimum requirements to secure membership within Ontario Water Polo.
Register with Ontario Water Polo all applicable players, coaches, managers, officials, referees, volunteers and administrators and submit the following information of such registrants as outlined through the Ontario Water Polo On-Line Registration System. In addition the new club is obligated to provide information to Ontario water Polo using the OWP Club Information Form, Registration Form and Registration Package that is distributed on a yearly basis.
Submit to Ontario Water Polo a list of their Board of Directors including contact information, address, telephone number, fax number, email and web address, as well as appoint an individual to act as the new club member’s point of contact.
The founder of the club must submit to Ontario Water Polo a Criminal Record Check / Vulnerable Sector in the initial year of operation.
New clubs would have two (2) options available to them concerning the type of club membership that they wish to register as with Ontario Water Polo.
Option#1- Recreational Club Membership.
The new club would be allowed to host League days and host tournaments. They would not be able to participate in the OWP Provincial Championships or travel outside of the Province of Ontario or participate in National events.
Club Fees will be paid to Ontario Water Polo on the following scale:
Year 1 25% of the OWP Club Fee (plus HST)
Year 2 - 25% of the OWP Club Fee (plus HST
Year 3 - 50% of the OWP Club Fee (plus HST)
Year 4 - 70% of the OWP Club Fee (plus HST)
Year 5 - Full Club Fee
The new club would be allowed to host League days and host tournaments. They would not be participate in the OWP Provincial Championships or travel outside of the Province of Ontario.
Option #2- Full Service Club
A Full Service Club which allows the club to participate in OWP Provincials, travel outside of the Province of Ontario and participate in national events.
